Ghanaians protest cemetery sale to Nigerian businessman

Some Ghanaian youths have protested the sale of a cemetery to a Nigerian businessman.

The youths are angry that some chiefs in Mempeasem, in the Assin Fosu Municipality of the Central Region, sold the town’s cemetery to the Nigerian investor.

Modern Ghana reports that the youths were alarmed to see a bulldozer clearing the cemetery at the same time some bereaved people were there to bury their dead.

The youths said they discovered that Nana Aseku-Brempong, who is the Caretaker chief of Mempeasem-Konsontre, gave out the land.

They believed the chief used his veto power to sell 100 plots of the cemetery land to the Nigerian, who is resident at Assin Kushea.

The youths subsequently stormed Nana’s palace, warning they would resist any development on the land.

“We will chase the chiefs if they make any attempt to sell the cemetery land,” the Youth leader, Abdulai Salifu told reporters.

They also threatened to deal with any developer seen on the land.
