FG responds to US, UK, others on terror alert

The Nigerian government has described as “irresponsible” the terror alert issued by the United States, UK, and other western countries recently. The foreign governments had warned about a likely terrorists attack in Abuja and other places in Nigeria.

On Monday, Babagana Monguno, the national security adviser (NSA), and other intelligence chiefs, jointly dismissed the terror alert during a state house briefing.

Munguno described the terror alert as “unnecessary, false, and irresponsible.”

“Our own citizens are not in peril”, he added.

The NSA explained that the country’s intelligence body shares information with the US and other development partners and wondered why they issued the alert.

“I do not have that crystal ball to know the workings of their minds, but the truth is that the alert was for their own citizens. Probably the way in which it was released became complicated at the end of the day. He described the alert as “an unnecessary distraction”.

Others who spoke at the briefing were the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; the Director-General, National Intelligence Agency, Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor.

TheCornet had reported the security alert by the US, UK and others issued to their citizens.
