FG rearms police, NSDC, others

The Federal Government plans rearming security forces in the country, including the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS).
In addition, the government also plans to provide the law enforcement agencies some operational vehicles and other security hardware, as provided in the 2023 Appropriation Bill.
The security budget for each of the agencies is as follows: Police, N13.4bn; NSCDC, (N520.7m); and NCS, (N1.4bn).
The police is expected to expend N1.9bn on arms procurement and protective gear; N7.8bn for security equipment, and N150m for security vehicles. Equally, the police said it would spend N938.2m on riot control equipment, including electric stun guns, tear gas canisters and rapid deployment razor-wired trailers.
