Tinubu in Borno over deadly floods
President Bola Tinubu has visited Borno State in northern Nigeria, where floods have engendered a humanitarian crisis. No fewer than 37 persons are said to have died, while properties have been destroyed by the floods.
President Tinubu arrived at Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, to commiserate with the government and victims of the disaster. The President visited an internally displaced peoples’ camp to sympathize with the victims.
“I want to assure you that we will support you. We will help you. God bless you,” Tinubu said. On President Tinubu’s entourage are the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio; the Minister of Agriculture, Abubakar Kyari; and the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mele Kyari. On ground to receive the President are Inspector-general of police, Kayode Egbetokun; the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Kwara Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq; the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed; Kogi Governor of Usman Ahmed Ododo; and Sokoto State Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, among others.
