Election petitions court backs INEC on results transmission

The Presidential Election Petitions Court says the Electoral Act empowers the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to determine the mode of results collation during the poll.

Ruling on the petition filed by Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last February poll, Peter Obi, the court relied on Sections 52 and 65 of the Electoral Act 2022.

The ruling lay to rest the opposition party’s candidate claim that INEC’s failure to transmit election’s results electronically to its IREV portal robbed him of votes that could have made him the winner of the poll.
