Ekiti 2022: Segun Oni trailed by defection rumour
Segun Oni, a former governor of Ekiti State, has allegedly dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
However, TheCornet was unable to verify the claim.
The Nation reported that Oni has defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and on which platform he will contest June 22 Ekiti governorship poll.
The report said an unnamed aide of Oni confirmed his defection.
“I can confirm that Oga Segun Oni is leaving PDP any moment from Saturday (today)”.
“His decision was informed by the undemocratic manner the just concluded governorship primary was conducted by Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel to favour ex-governor Ayodele Fayose’s anointed aspirant,” the source allegedly stated.
Oni was disgruntled about the PDP primaries. He lost the contest Bisi Kolawole who has the backing of former Governor Ayodele Fayose. Oni, along with other aspirants, described the exercise as a charade schemed in Kolawole’s favour.
Lanre Ogunsuyi, the Director of Media of Segun Oni Campaign Council, reportedly responded to media enquiries, saying, “The rumour is thick. And there can’t be a smoke without fire.”
