Lagos gets FG’s nod for proposed Lekki airport

Hadi Sirika, the minister of aviation, on Tuesday announced that the federal government has acceded to Lagos state government’s request to site an international airport in the Lekki area of the metropolis.

The minister made the announcement on the stage of the ongoing Ehingbeti Lagos Economic Summit 2022. He later handed the documents coveting the approval to state Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

An ambitious Governor Sanwo-Olu had spoken about the state’s readiness to construct an international airport. He believes the project will complement the ongoing construction of the Lagos Free Trade Zones and the Dangote petroleum refinery, both located in the Lekki-Epe axis of the state.

Lagos currently hosts Nigeria’s first and major international airport, the Murtala Mohammed International Airport.
