Disgraced ex-AGF Ahmed Idris fights for bail in N109bn fraud suit

Ahmed Idris, a disgraced Nigerian official accused of stealing N109.5billion along with two others, has continued to fight for bail.

Until his arrest for stealing, Idris was Nigeria’s account

The other defendants are Olusegun Akindele, Mohammed Usman, and Gezawa Commodity Market and Exchange Limited.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Idris last Friday and Monday. At both times, Idris and his co-accused pleaded not guilty to the 14-count charge preferred against them and were ordered to be remanded in the custody of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje.

Ahmed’s lawyer, Chris Uche (SAN), had asked for bail for his client. Opposing, the EFCC’s counsel Rotimi Jacobs said releasing Idris would send wrong signal members of the public.

Uche returned Wednesday to continue with his client’s bail request.
