Authorities confirm policeman’s killing, burning of patrol vehicles

Enugu state police command has confirmed the killing by unknown gunmen of an operative and the burning of  patrol vehicles at Nsukka.

Daniel Ndukwe, the Police Public Relations  Officer  for the command, confirmed the development.

“Yes, there was an attack on Police Operatives in Nsukka today.

“But the details are still sketchy. I will communicate you once I get details, please,” Ndukwe told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The incident took place at Umanu junction, in Nsukka.  The burning of the police vehicles happened along Ibeagwa-Ani road, also in the area.

An eyewitness at Umanu junction said the gunmen struck at about 6:20 a.m, shooting sporadically.

“I switched off all electric lights in my house and told my wife and children to keep quiet because I thought they were robbers”, she said, without giving her name for fear of retribution.
