Akeredolu stops short of declaring support for Tinubu’s bid

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu stops short of declaring support for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s presidential bid after the latter visit to Ondo state delegates on Thursday.Â

TheCornet reports that Tinubu visited the state to woo delegates for his presidential run. It was his second visit to the state in recent times.

In his statement, Governor Akeredolu said the “funfair that greeted Asiwaju’s visit is a statement on his investment and hard work over the years.”

“We must be able to accept the fact that Asiwaju has done a lot”, said the governor whose initial governorship run Tinubu bankrolled in 2012.

“During Asiwaju’s visit, I reiterated that the presidency must come to the South.Â

“The governors in the Southwest have spoken,” the governor added.Â

Akeredolu, who was Tinubu’s counsel before joining active politics, is allegedly backing his ally, Governor Kayode Fayemi who is also a presidential aspirant.Â

Both are known to have benefited politically from Tinubu’s whelming influence and have equally fallen out with him at some point.Â

Tinubu is known to have backed the gubernatorial ambition of Segun Abraham against Akeredolu during the governor’s first attempt for the office.Â

But, political realignment would later see Abraham backing Akeredolu’s second term return.
