2023: INEC ordered to continue voter registration

A federal high court has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to continue its voter registration exercise, which it stoppedin July.

Three citizens, led by one Ajanat Salmat, had sued INEC over its decision to halt the exercise.

Ruling on the suit on Tuesday, Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, ordered INEC to immediately resume the exercise, until 90 days to the 2023 general elections.

Ejowo warned INEC against disenfranchising eligible voters while it must ensure electorate get their voter’s card too.

He adds that it is INEC’s responsibility to provide adequately for the exercise.
