Statistician-general of the federation dies
The Statistician-General of the Federation, Simon Harry, is dead.
Ichedi Joel, the Director, Communication and Public Relations Department, of the National Bureau of Statistics confirmed Harry’s death. Harry was rumoured to have died two days ago but officials dispelled it.
Reacting to inquiry on Wednesday, Joel said, “It is not a rumor anymore, the SG is dead, he died from an illness.”
The late Harry was reportedly indisposed and hospitalised last Saturday. President Muhammadu Buhari had appointed him into the position last August.
According to official records, the late Harry joined the Federal Office of Statistics as Statistician 11 in 1992 and he rose to become the Director of Statistics in 2019.
