NIN: 89million Nigerians so far enrolled – NIMC

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has so far enrolled 89million Nigerians, says Mrs. Henrietta Okolo, its Delta State director.

Okolo also said three million persons have registered in Delta State and urged others to do so too.

“Our target is to enroll everybody,” she said. According to her, the enrollment is free and has its benefits, one of which is helping the government at all levels to deal with issues using the database.

“We have started enrollment and issuance of NIN. So far, we have brought 50, 000 cards to the state, and issued over half of it, but we still have about 18, 000 that have not been collected,” she explained.

TheCornet reports that the NIMC has levied some charges for specific purposes. In a recent circular by NIMC’s CEO Engineer Aliyu Aziz, NIN enrollment, NIN verification service before enrollment, and National e-ID card (first issuance) are free.

However, enrollees are to pay N500 for NIN slip reprint; modification of bio-data (excluding date of birth), N500; while modification of data of birth, N15,000; National e-ID card replacement/ renewal N5,000.
