Nigerian Senate will operate from Akwa Ibom for four days – Akpabio

President of Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has said the Nigerian Senate would operate from Akwa Ibom for four days, beginning on Friday.

Akapbio said this in the context of a retreat scheduled for senators. Incidentally, Akwa Ibom is Senator Akapbio’s home state, where he equally served as governor for two consecutive terms.

“We are moving the Senate all the way to Akwa Ibom for the next four days,” Senator Akpabio told statehouse correspondents after his meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday.

The Senate president also addressed his disagreement with another his colleague, Senator Ali Ndume over his handling of the plenary debates. Ndume on Tuesday raised a point of order but no sooner did he begin to speak than the senate president cut him short.

Angered by Akpabio’s action, Ndume stormed out of the Senate but would later return to partake in a closed session intended apparently to address the disagreement.

“In the parliament, sometimes you disagree to agree. But we will never get to the point of throwing chairs. The Senate is too mature, full of matured people,” he said. He added, “Even if some people disagree with some of the happenings in the Senate, it is only the majority decision that is going to prevail.

“We are politicians, no permanent hatred but permanent interest. That interest is the interest of the nation.”
