Opponents say I have one arm, I shouldn’t be voted for – Imo LP guber candidate

Senator Athan Achonu, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate for Imo state, has alleged his opponents are body-shaming him due to his disability. Achonu has only one arm.

The politician made the revelation on Arise Television’s The Morning Show.

He said, “People are already saying if we vote for the one-arm General (that’s what they call me), they will take away the thing from him in the Supreme Court, so we don’t want to waste our votes.

“So that’s just the situation they want to create. They are stimulating the belief that just because I have one arm, I shouldn’t be voted for.”

Achonu is faced with intra-party squabbles as he and Ikechukwu Ukaegbu, who emerged from different primaries held by another faction of the LP, battle for the governorship ticket.

To Achonu, the political differences with opponent in his party would only give an advantage to the sitting governor, Hope Uzodima, in his bid to retain the seat.

He said, “The beneficiary of all these crises and factions in the Labour Party will be the APC government in power.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Saturday, November 11 for the election and other off-cycle governorship polls taking place in Bayelsa, and Kogi states.
