How Ayu threatened other presidential aspirants to step down for Atiku – Wike

Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers state, has given an insight into his disagreement with the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Iyorchia Ayu.

According to Wike, Ayu worked against him, in the bid to favour Atiku Abubakar, who later emerged the flag bearer.

Wike said this during his televised press conference on Friday. The Rivers state governor averred the PDP national chairman “threatened that if Wike wins, he would resign”.

“A whole national chairman threatened some of the presidential aspirants at that time that if Wike wins, he was going to resign.

“In fact, he was calling aspirants to withdraw for Atiku Abubakar,” Wike said.

The PDP has been embroiled in a crisis since having its presidential primaries. Wike and some other governors and chieftains of the party have asked that Ayu resign. The hinge their demand on the ground that the presidential candidate and national chairman of the party must not be from the same northern zone.
