Police arrest Black Axe ‘Butcher’ days after Eiye confraternity leader’s arrest

A suspected cult leader Abdul-Azeez Ibrahim, aka Butcher, has been arrested in Ogun State, the police have said. Ibrahim is also described as an armed robber and a kidnapper.

The police said that the undergraduate of the Tai Solarin University of Education, in Ogun, is the ‘hitman’ of the Neo Black Movement of Africa, aka Black Axe.

He was apprehended “on 27th January, 2024, at about 2.30am, in Ijebu Ode area.”

The police said: “He is the hit man and armourer for the Neo Black Movement of Africa, aka Black Axe, in Ijebu Ode.”

Recovered from Ibrahim were guns, ammunition, and charms. His arrest comes after that of another cultist, Salisu Muktar.

The Ogun command of the police force said Muktar had initially fled the country to neighbouring Ghana to evade arrest.

He belongs to the Eiye confraternity and was linked to fatal cultist activities in the Sagamu area of Ogun State, where he was eventually arrested after his return to the country.

In a related event, the police have arrested a gun manufacturer, Pam Chung, in Plateau State.

He and two others are said to have manufactured locally fabricated rifles, which the police said are capable of firing AK47 ammunition.

TheCornet reports that Nigeria’s security situation is worsened by the proliferation of small arms and high-calibre rifles in the country.

The police and the Nigerian Customs Service have announced several seizures of caches of arms and ammunition that have found their ways into the country.

But, despite, the smuggling of weapons and their handling by unauthorised persons persist.
