Sanwo-Olu’s challenger barred from primary election venue

The APC election committee for Lagos state has barred governorship aspirant Abdul-Ahmed Mustapha, who is challenging incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, from accessing the Mobolaji Johsnon Stadium venue of the primaries.

The aspirant, Abdul-Ahmed Mustapha was formerly in the employ of the Lagos state government. Until his resignation over a year ago, Mustapha was the permanent secretary, Ministry of Energy and Minerals Resources in the state.

The election committee, led by former deputy governor of Borno State, Shettima Yuguda, said the party’s screening panel did not clear Mustapha for the contest.

Explaining his side of the matter, Mustapha said he appeared before the screening committee in Abuja but he was not cleared.

“We were told that we were not cleared by the leadership of the party and as such, they only gave accreditation tags to those that were cleared.

“We went to Abuja for clearance two weeks ago. The results of the clearance were not communicated to us.

“We went to the APC state secretariat at Acme Road yesterday (Wednesday), we tried to get our accreditation tags but we were not given. We were there till 7am this morning before going to the venue of the primary.”
