Charges against Emefiele reduced

Godwin Emefiele, former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), is to answer to a reduced six count fraud charges preferred against by the federal government.  The original charges were 20 in number

The government is alleging that Emefiele and a female CBN employee, Sa’adatu Yaro, and her company, April 1616 Investment, committed the N6.9 billion fraud.

The amount of money involved was equally reduced to N1.2bn in the amended charges.

The twist to the case is that Emefiele is the only defendant in the new charge.

Emefiele would have been arraigned on Wednesday but for the now suspended nationwide strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress.
