Kano governor speaks on alleged pact with Tinubu

Governor Abba Yussuf of Kano State has made clarifications concerning the speculations that he had a pact with President Bola Tinubu.

Those behind the rumours said the pact was responsible for the governor’s Supreme Court victory against the ruling party’s governorship candidate Nasir Gawuna.

Those pushing the narrative have gone ahead to publish a document they purported to be the agreement between the governor and the president.

But, in his response, Yussuf dismissed the document.

The “document as an imaginary piece, devoid of all iota of truth,” Yusuf, said in a statement signed by his spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

The statement added: “For the purposes of emphasis, the rather fake agreement saying Governor Yusuf has accepted to cross carpet to the ruling APC, jettison purported claim to dissolve or allow the five emirates, discontinuing demolition of illegal structures and establishment of Kano Elders Council should be disregarded.

“The governor would like to make it abundantly clear, that having secured his mandate through popular votes of the good people of Kano, and certified by a fair affirmation of Supreme Court judgment, he would not be intimidated by any political opportunist.

“I wish to categorically state that Governor Yusuf did not enter any agreement or condition with anybody before the Supreme Court Judgment. I therefore urge the public to dismiss the fallacy being orchestrated by enemies of progress.”

TheCornet reports that Abdullahi Ganduje, the ruling All Progressives Congress national chairman, had publicly invited the governor and his godfather, Rabiu Kwankwaso to join the party.

Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, succeeded Kwankwaso under whom he previously served as a deputy governor for eight years.

Both politicians subsequently fell out, resulting in a long-drawn bitter political competition for the control of the state’s political power. Kwankwaso’s New Nigeria’s Peoples Power (NNPP) triumphed over the APC in the 2023 governorship race.
