Zulum conducts headcount in IDP, finds 650 ghost households

Babagana Zulum, the governor of Borno State, Sunday conducted a headcount of Internally Displaced Persons, (IDP) from Abadam Local Government Area of the state.

The governor reportedly stormed the Mohammed Goni College of Islamic Legal Studies IDP camp.

A government statement said Governor Zulum, on getting to the camp, ordered the gate shut. The “rampant cases of dubious residents pretending to be displaced” but whom at night return to their homes to sleep.

“Out of 1,000 households in the records of humanitarian officials, 650 households were ghosts.”

The governor was aided by an official of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Air Commodore M. T. Abdullahi, and two commissioners (Agriculture, and Local Government and Emirate Affairs) while the count lasted.

The beleaguered state has been facing terrorist attacks by Boko Haram insurgents.
