Zamfara assembly proceeds on deputy governor’s impeachment

Zamfara State House of Assembly in northern Nigeria has served a notice of impeachment on Deputy Governor Mahdi Aliyu Muhammad Gusau.

On Thursday, 18 of the 22-member assembly indicated their readiness to impeach the Gusau.

Mustapha Jafaru Kaura, the Director General Press Affairs and Public Relations of the assembly, said the deputy speaker and Chairman House Committee on Public Accounts Musa Bawa Musa Yankuzo moved the motion on the matter.

He said Hon Yusuf Alhassan Kanoma, representing Maru North, seconded the motion.

Following the motion, Speaker Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya ordered that a vote be taken, where majority of the lawmakers voted for the impeachment.

Speaker Magarya therefore directed that a notice of impeachment be served on Gusau, in fulfilment of the law.
