Yoruba Nollywood comic Denjo Tunfulu dies
An indigenous Yoruba actor Dejo Tunfulu has passed on on Friday morning.
Dejo, who usually played comic in movies, was also known for his stuttering mimicry and imbecilic portrayal.
He was one of the early actors of Nigeria’s home video era that also had the likes of late Babatunde Omidina (Baba Suwe) and Samuel Olasheinde (Pa Ajirebi), Yomi King (Opebe) among others.
He was born and brought up in the Idumota, on Lagos Island. He was originally from Abeokuta, Ogun State.
He was educated at Ansar-Ud-Deen Primary School and, later, Dolphin High School, Ebute Elefun, Lagos Island.
He later attended the Modern Way Nigeria School of Printing for a certificate in printing to enhance his knowledge and skill.
Dejo’s acting career was influenced by another Nollywood star, Fausat Balogun (Madam Saje) with whom he lived in same neighborhood.
He joined Akuko Gagara Theatre Group and Kolawole International Theatre Group, and got his first television appearance in 1987 in the drama series “Apere Ijongbon”.
He was aged 50 and survived by children and grandchildren.
