Yes, shoot anyone illegally carrying AK-47, Buhari restates

President Muhammadu Buhari is not backing down on his shoot-on-sight order against anyone illegally carrying AK-47. He restated his position to traditional rulers who visited him in Nigeria’s presidential palace in Abuja on Thursday.

A statement by Femi Adesina, the special adviser on media to the president, said Buhari briefed the monarchs on efforts at improving security across the country. Adesina said President Buhari also told them security had improved in the North-East and South-South geopolitical zones of the country.

“But what surprises is what is happening now in the North-West where the same people, with the same culture are killing each other, taking their livestock and burning properties.

The president reportedly frowned at criminals attacking police stations and killing security personnel. ‘He warned that no investor would invest in a country that is unsafe’, the statement said.

More so, Adesina said President Buhari has urged security forces to go harder on the criminals.

Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar III and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, led other monarchs under the

auspices of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, to the meeting.

Others at the meeting were security chiefs, including the National Security Adviser, Major-General Babagana Monguno (retd.); Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu; the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi; and the Director-General of National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ahmed Abubakar.

Also at the meeting were the Sultan of Sokoto; the Ooni of Ife; the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe; the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar; King Jaja of Opobo, Dr. Dandeson Douglas Jaja; Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu; Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammad Iliyasu; and the Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Ajibade Alabi.
