The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested two women suspected to be internet fraudsters, known in Nigeria’s local parlance as Yahoo Yahoo. Also arrested for committing similar offences are nine males.
As stated in its statement, the EFCC said officers from its Uyo Zonal Command intercepted a convoy of exotic cars belonging to the suspects, along the Ikpa Road.
The agency said the “credible intelligence” it regarding the suspects’ “fraudulent internet activities, lavish lifestyles and naira spraying at events in the Uyo metropolis” gave them away.
EFCC said it recovered some cars from the suspects. The cars include Toyota Land Crusader Prado, with registration number ABC 553 LD Abuja; Toyota Camry LE, with registration number KKN 48 AE Akwa Ibom; two Honda Accord cars, with registration numbers LSR 754 AQ Lagos, and LSR 475 FN Lagos respectively. Other vehicles retrieved from the suspects are Toyota saloon, registration number: RBC 1898J Abuja, and a Lexus 300 saloon car with registration number JJJ423 JK Lagos. “Other items recovered from them include fifteen smartphones and ten bundles of N200 notes.”
“They would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the agency said.
In a similar vein, the agency’s Abuja zonal directorate said it apprehended nine suspected internet fraudsters, on Monday, at the Wuye axis of Abuja. EFCC said its action followed “credible intelligence” that the suspects are into internet-related fraud.
