Ondo governorship aspirant Akintelure dead

Paul Akintelure, an aspirant for the governorship of Ondo State, has died in yet to be known circumstances. Some days ago, Akintelure had complained his life was being threatened but fail to reveal those behind the threat.

He is one of the aspirants jostling for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, ticket. The primary election to select the party’s candidate will hold on April  25th.

Akintelure political trajectory had seen him stand as running mate to late former governor Rotimi Akeredolu in his first outing in 2007.

Akeredolu and Akintelure both lost the race to then incumbent, Olusegun Mimiko, who ran on the banner of the Labour Party.

Ondo governorship election is seen as a straight fight between Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who ascended to the position following the death of Akeredolu in a hospital in Germany, and some loyalists of his former principal.

Among them is Wale Akinterinwa, who claimed Akeredolu had announced him his successor before his passing. Prior to his death, Akeredolu and Aiyedatiwa’s relationship suffered a strain.

While Akeredolu was convalescing from prostrate cancer, his wife, Betty, held his political structure. There has been no love lost between Betty and Aiyedatiwa, who was her late husband’s deputy before his demise.
