Witness recounts Kogi explosion that killed four persons

A witness report has that four persons died in the blast that occured at the palace of Ohinoyi of Ebiraland in Kogi State, Alhaji Ado Ibrahim, on Thursday.

The incident coincided with President Muhammadu Buhari’s official visit to the state, where he commissioned some infrastructural projects.

Daily Trust quoted the witness Mallam Abubakar Ahmed as saying that the incident happened around 9.am shortly before President Buhari arrived at Okene to commission the legacy projects.

“The noise of the explosion was followed shortly by wailing and screaming from the neighbourhoods. Later, we saw soldiers moving towards the direction of the palace,” Ahmed was quoted as .

Four persons are said to have died in the blast.

However, another account claims it was a a power distribution transformer that exploded.

The Kogi State government and the Nigeria Police are yet to issue any statement on the incident.
