Wike sinks Atiku as Rivers LG result gives Tinubu landslide win
Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has delivered his Obio Akpor Local Government Area to Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, who garnered 80,239 votes.
Tinubu trounced his counterpart, Peoples Democratic Party’s Abubakar Atiku in the results declared in Port Harcourt by a wide margin, leaving him a paltry 368 votes. Labour Party’s Peter Obi came a distant second in the results declared, scoring 3829 votes.
Wike and Atiku are embattled following their fierce contest for the PDP presidential ticket.
He had vowed not to support Atiku except Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP national chairman stepped down for a southerner. Wike argues that Ayu, who is a northerner as Atiku ought not to violate the party’s distributive principle of governmental and party offices.
Wike is joined in his opposition to Atiku by Oyo governor Seyi Makinde; Benue’s Samuel Ortom, Abia’s Ifeanyi Ugwuanyin and Enugu’s Okezie Ikpeazu.
The result was announced shortly after the suspended collation resumed in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
