Why we arrested Doyin Okupe – DSS

The Department of State Service has said it arrested Doyin Okupe, the former director-general of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, based on a request from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Peter Afunanya, the spokesperson for the DSS, explained that Okupe was intercepted at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, on his way to London.
“He has long been handed over to the commission which requested the action. Okupe was billed to fly to London via Virgin Atlantic,” he said.
At the same time, the EFCC says the DSS acted on a signal it gave to it since 2016 and that Okupe is no longer on its watchlist.
