Tinubu gives military full authority to deal with soldiers’ killers

President Bola Tinubu has granted “the defence headquarters and the chief of defence staff the full authority” to deal with the killers of 14 soldiers and officers.

Among the slain military men were a commanding officer, two majors, and a captain.

Armed youths in Okuama community in Ughelli, Delta State, had ambushed, killed and dismembered the soldiers, who were on a peace mission to the community after receiving a distress call.

In his statement, President Tinubu described the act as an “unconscionable crime”, vowing that the “cowardly offenders” responsible for the killing “would not go unpunished.”

The President said he joined Nigerians and the armed forces to mourn the “needless death of our gallant soldiers.”

The officers have joined “the pantheon of great men and women who gave their all, with honour and in service of our fatherland.”
