What Nnamdi Kanu told me during our meeting – Soludo

Governor Chukwuma Soludo has revealed his discussion with the separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu in his detention facility.

Soludo said he visited Kanu on Friday, May 13th.

Stating his mission, the Anambra state governor said he had gone to “felicitate” and to consult him on his search for “a lasting peace in the South East”.

“He was in very high spirits and we had quality and frank discussion in a very convivial atmosphere”, said the governor.

Soludo said Kanu “expressed sadness over what he described as sacrilegious killings of innocent persons, kidnappings and all forms of criminalities, including the brutal enforcement of the senseless “sit at home” perpetuated by sundry groups claiming to be acting for or on behalf of IPOB.”

According to him, Kanu assures that, “if the opportunity arises, he will be glad to personally broadcast to his followers to maintain the peace.”

Kanu is under trial for treasonable felony. He leads the proscribed separatist group, the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB.

IPOB’s military wing, the Eastern Security Network, has had brushes  with security agencies and alleged to be behind the series of violent murders and disturbances in the region.

In a statement on Saturday, Emma Powerful, who claims to be spokesperson for IPOB, declared restrictions to vehicular and human movements across the South-East on May 18 and 20 when Kanu would appear in court for continuation of his trial.
