Police got after Edo cultists, scores arrested

Police in Edo state have arrested scores of cultists during a raid. The police said it observed an uptick in the activities of cultists and decided to go after them, leading to 53 arrests.

“On Thursday, July 13, 2023, the command’s anti-cultism, Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Units, in collaboration with the Edo State Security Network, while acting on credible information, arrested 53 male suspects in different locations. The suspects have been profiled, investigated and processed to court, and as I speak, they are in prison,” Mohammed Dankwara, the commissioner of police for the state, said.

He said the police had discovered that cultists were holding secret meetings in hotels and private residences.

Dankwara said the law enforcement, therefore, “came out with some credible and workable solutions.”

He explained that the idea centred on ‘fighting the scourge of secret cult activities and killings in the state.”
