We would win without G-5, says PDP’s Okowa

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, the Peoples Democratic Party’s vice presidential candidate, has said that he and the standard-bearer Abubakar Atiku, would win the 2023 poll, despite the opposition from the Group of Five governors. The PDP G-5 governors comprise Governors Nyesom Wike, Seyi Makinde, Okezie Ikpeazu, and Ifeanyi Ugwanyin.

The governors are insisting that the party’s national chairman Iyorchia Ayu should be replaced with a southerner for fairness and balance. Ayu is a northerner as Atiku Abubakar, a development the aggrieved governors claim contradict the PDP’s constitution on distribution of party offices among the different geographical zones in the country.

Speaking at a campaign stop at Ndokwa East and Ndokwa West local government areas of Delta state, Okowa expressed his confidence in winning the poll.

“God has said it that we, the PDP, will win this election. Many things may be happening now and people may be asking what about the G-5 governors. These governors are our brothers; everybody is important. But what God has said will happen, nobody can change it.

“Even if some of them decide to support the APC, some will still remain with us because there will be division among them. The real truth is that I have strong political eyes and I have observed that no matter what they do, the PDP will win the forthcoming election by the grace of God.”
