Violence flares in Abuja neighborhood

Violence flared in Gwarimpa, a sprawling neighborhood of Nigeria’s capital Abuja on Monday.

Details of the incident is still sketchy as at press time.

A famous Nigerian Twitter user of mixed ancestry, Mohammed Jamal, had tweeted about the violence at the 3rd Avenue, Gwarimpa. A second tweet from him minutes after states that security operatives had moved in on those involved and restored normalcy.

“The situation seems under control for now. Security agencies are on the scene. Everyone should stay calm and be law abiding, ” Jamal tweeted.

TheCornet gathered there was a confrontation between the indigenes and some others identified as “Hausa boys”. A tweeter user under the handle @Adam49870700, claimed that the incident was “a clash between the indigenes and the Hausa boys.” But this medium could not independently verify his claim.

Videos shared by multiple users showed plumes of smoke purporting to be from the scene.
