Tertiary institutions in Nigeria are to decide their cut-off points individually, says the

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), on Tuesday.

The examination body took the decision at a policy meeting that was chaired by Minister of Education Adamu Adamu.

According to JAMB registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, “institutions have now been given the liberty to decide cut-off marks”.

He explained that the University of Maiduguri proposed 150 as it cut-off point for students admission, while Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto pegged its at 140. Others are Pan Atlantic University, 210; University of Lagos, 200; Lagos State University, 190; Covenant University, 190; and Bayero University, Kano, 180.

He also stated that the Ministry of Education would decide the deadline for admissions, after both public and private universities represented at the meeting failed to reach an agreeable date.

Equally, the meeting resolved that JAMB would be the one to process admission into full and part time programmes offered in universities and polytechnics in the country.

For Direct Entry admission, the meeting decided that a candidate must pass at most six courses or a minimum of two or an E.
