Two Police officers killed, three battling for life, patrol vehicle burnt in Abuja violence

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Police Force has suffered human and material losses after clashing with members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (Shiites) at the Wuse Market, in Abuja.

Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the command, said it was an unprovoked attack against the police by the radical Shiites.

Adeh said the violent Muslim group killed two police officers, left three battling for their lives and, equally, burnt down a patrol vehicle.

“The proscribed organisation attacked the police checkpoint unprovoked, wielding machetes, improvised explosive devices (locally-made petrol bombs) and knives,” Adeh stated.

The police said they had arrested some persons and that “the situation is presently under control and normalcy restored.”

A report (not Cornet News) stated, while the police chased after some Shiites members, a stray bullet had hit an onlooker in the chest, resulting in his death.
