Two dead, 9 rescued as troops, kidnappers exchange gunfire

Suspected kidnappers have killed two victims they abducted from their villages in Anguwan Maharba and Dandami in Kaduna State.

The account is according to the authorities at the 1 Division Nigerian Army, who claimed to have rescued nine victims and recovered some weapons from the assailants.

The division, in a statement by Lt. Col Musa Yahaya, acting deputy director, public relations of the division, said troops encountered the kidnappers in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Upon receiving a complaint about the kidnapping, Yahaya said troops and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, laid an ambush for the bandits.

Yahaya added that the bandits succumbed to “overwhelming firepower of the troops”, which “made the bandits to withdraw in disarray with gunshot wounds.”

“The troops rescued nine kidnapped victims while two of the hostages were killed by the bandits before the troops arrival.”

Recovered are AK47 rifle and magazine, and one locally made gun, Yahaya said.
