Twitter’s Ghana staff plans litigation against Elon Musk

Staff of Twitter, the micro-blogging app recently bought over by billionaire Elon Musk, are considering taking a legal action against him.

Musk has, recently, taken a purge of Twitter workforce globally, including the about a dozen staff based in Ghana.

The Ghanaian staff are aggrieved that  Musk is unwillingness to negotiate their severance package.

According to the British Broadcasting Corporation, the embattled staff wants to negotiate the severance package and termination process. They are also demanding such other benefits as health insurance, stocks, shares and unpaid leave allowances accrued to them.

The employees reportedly argue that they have been short-changed.

“They have hired lawyers to initiate talks with Ghana’s labour authorities with a view to compelling Twitter to adhere to the country’s laws on redundancy,” the report stated.

Under Ghana’s labour law, employees laid off from work are to be paid redundancy and should be given three months notice.

In Twitter’s case, the Ghana-based employees are given till 4 December 2022, without any suggestion their redundancy would be paid.

Ghana staff were sent messages about the end of their contracts to their personal accounts, after being denied access to work emails.

However, Twitter is yet to respond to the story, according to the BBC
