Tribunal merges Atiku’s, Obi’s petitions as Tinubu opposes

The Presidential Election Petition Court on Tuesday consolidated three petitions by the candidates of the All Peoples Movement, (APM); the Labour Party, (LP); and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This is as the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, whose victory the opposition candidates are challenging, opposed the move.

Tinubu’s counsels had opposed consolidating his petition with those of others, arguing it would defeat the cause of justice.

The petitions tribunal equally revealed the schedule for proceedings. Justice Haruna Tsammani, who leads the five-man panel, said that hearing into the consolidated petitions would begin May 30, 2023.

Tsammani added the court would deliver its judgment after parties had adopted their written addresses on August 5, 2023.

Both Peter Obi and Abubakar Atiku of the LP and PDP are challenging the outcome of the poll in which the electoral umpire declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Tinubu as the winner.

Each of Obi and Atiku claims he won the poll, urging the court to either declare him as the winner or to order a revote.
