Top northern politician’s wife, daughters held hostage

Bandits operating in Nigeria’s northern region have taken hostage the wife, three daughters and son of the lawmaker representing Talata Mafara in the Zamfara State House of Assembly.

The lawmaker, Yussuf Ardo, was not at home when the assailants stormed his residence.

Disappointed, the armed men then seized members of Ardo’s family and at the same time searched for him in neighbors’ houses where they felt he might be hiding.

An eyewitness Shafiu Lawal said in a report that the armed bandits stormed Ardo’s residence in Jangebe community at about 11 p.m

“They began to hit the gate, and a few minutes later, they broke into the residence.

“My brother was inside and when he learnt about their arrival, he jumped over a fence and hid in the neighborhood,” he reportedly said.

Lawal said though the lawmaker was in the town last Thursday, he left shortly after he came.

Aside from Ardo’s family, the bandits took other victims including nursing mothers but they were later released.
