Yusuf is said to be preferred choice of the ruling houses as they had already presented his name to the state government for approval.
Yusuf’s father, Oba Yusuf Omokanye Oyekanmi, had ruled the town until his passing in May, aged 95 years.
As per Daily Trust, Yusuf’s contribution to the development of the community is why he is the people’s choice for the vacant throne.
Among other things, he reportedly facilitated the establishment of a College of Education in the town and repurchased the land sold out by his father for the developmental use.
Abdullahi Bata, commissioner for local government, chieftaincy affairs and community development in Kwara, said that the process for Yusuf’s ascension had not been finalised.
“It (his appointment) is still in process. we have not announced anything yet. I am the person that will do that and the government will rectify it.
“I have read a lot of things on social media about it but disregard the rumour. Appointment of a monarch is not a secret or isolated thing. But once we are through, I will let you know”, Bata said, according to the report.
