Tinubu has character, courage to lead Nigeria – Wike

Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike has hailed the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate Bola Tinubu, saying he possesses “courage” and “character” to lead Nigeria.

The governor made the statement during Tinubu’s courtesy call on him in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers state.

The APC presidential hopeful campaigned in the state, alongside the party’s governorship standard bearer, Tonye Cole.

Governor Wike also teased his guest to stop funding Cole, saying he stood no chance against the PDP governorship candidate.

Wike said, “I have no apology to anybody to say nobody born of a woman can intimidate me. You (Tinubu) have never changed parties one day. That tells of your character and courage and that is what we require in this country.

“But let me advise you, don’t spend any more money on your governorship candidate here (Rivers),” he said.

The governor also upbraided the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele, for flouting the Supreme Court’s order directing the suspension of naira swapping deadline.

The Court had ordered that the federal government and the CBN halt the February 10 deadline, but both continue to act contrary to the directive.

He said, “The Governor of CBN is disrespecting the Supreme Court. Where has it happened in democracy?

“The Supreme Court says do not do this and everybody is folding hands, begging CBN to obey the Supreme Court. If the Supreme Court is not to be obeyed, what are you telling the people?”

Responding to Governor Wike, Tinubu said that they are both consistent, fearless, and faithful to their political causes.

He said, “You never advocated division or breakup of our country. All your advocacy is about sharing the cake we bake together. We are here to campaign on the philosophy you brought about when you said let power shift to the South.”
