      Three kidnapped in Bayelsa, five die in road crash

Armed men have kidnapped three persons working at an oil installation in the Atabong area of the Bakassi Peninsula. Also, five persons died in a road crash that took place along the Bauchi-Jos Road, in Bauchi state.

On the Bakassi incident, the gunmen who are believed to belong to a group, the ‘Biafra Nation League’, whisked the oil workers away to an unknown destination on Saturday morning.

The Bayelsa state police command has yet to issue a statement on the incident.

On the crash, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said that the accident involved a petrol tanker and a Peugeot 406. The casualties are three male adults, three female adults and one female child. The FRSC said that over-speeding by the drivers led to the road crash.

Yusuf Abdullahi, the corps commander for the state, their rescue team arrived at the accident scene timely enough.

“Immediately our rescue team got to the scene after 26 minutes that we were informed, they rushed the victims to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital for treatment and confirmation.

“It was when they got to the hospital that a medical doctor confirmed five people; two male adults, two female adults and one female child, dead,” he said.
