Police arrest fleeing Ogun kidnapper

The police in Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria, have arrested suspected kidnapper Usman Aliyu. TheCornet had reported that the police arrested two members of Aliyu’s gang some days ago. But, Aliyu escaped when the police stormed the Onigbedu Forest, in Ewekoro, where the two accomplices were nabbed.

According to Abimbola Oyeyemi, the spokesperson for the command, an informant had tipped off about Aliyu’s presence in the Papalanto area of the state capital, Abeokuta.

“Upon the information, the DPO Ewekoro division, CSP Sunday Opebiyi, quickly mobilized his men on stop and search along that road and the suspect was subsequently identified and promptly arrested.

“On interrogation, he confessed been a member of the kidnap gang, whose two members were earlier arrested and a victim rescued from the them. He informed the police that they were six in number, and that when two amongst them were apprehended, the other members ran into different directions in the forest,” he said.

The police also said that Aliyu confessed to being part of the gang that kidnapped two residents, namely Owolabi Abiodun and Fakorede Kazeem at Kipe village, in Abeokuta on the 7th of October 2022.

Aliyu allegedly claimed that his gang killed Fakorede Kazeez while they were leading him to their den, because he could not walk fast enough.

Oyeyemi added: “The gang according to him also kidnapped the duo of Adekunle Esther, 10, and Adekunle Adebayo, 25, on the 10th of October 2022. The suspect also said his gang abducted one Mrs. Famurewa after killing her husband Festus.

The gang’s victims are said to have identified the three suspects for their crime.
