2023: Tinubu, Shekaru to hold talks

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is set to have talks with Senator Ibrahim Shekarau in an apparent move to have the influential Kano politician return to the ruling party.

Shekarau, who represents Kano central senatorial district, had dumped the APC to join presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso’s newly formed New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP).

According to privileged sources, Tinubu’s running mate Senator Kashim Shettima had earlier met with Shekarau for the same purpose of getting him to rejoin the APC.

Dr. Sule Yau Sule, the spokesperson for the Shekarau political group, reportedly confirmed the political moves.

Sule, in a report by Daily Trust, also confirmed that Shekarau is contemplating dumping the NNPP. The NNPP is said to have reneged on the agreement it reached with the Shekarau and his supporters before their joining the fledging party.

Sule said the political group has set up a special committee to consider the issue of defection to either the APC or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“The 30-member committee will present its recommendations this Thursday. So, it is after that our next line of action will be made public,” he said, noting that the Council is also considering reaching out to the national leadership of the NNPP.

“As such, it is not entirely true that we are mulling exit,” Sule added.

Calls to his number did not connect while a text message sent to the number has not been responded to as of the time of filing this report.
