Supreme Court dismisses PDP’s suit against Tinubu, Shettima

The Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking to disqualify the president-elect and his deputy, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Kashim Shettima respectively.

PDP had lost at the federal high court and, subsequently, the appeal court but dissatisfied, the party decided to lodge a petition at the apex court.

The opposition party alleged Shettima doubly registered as a senatorial aspirant and vice presidential aspirant prior to the election.

It stated that the alleged act breached the provisions of sections 29(1), 33, 35, and 84(1)(2) of the Electoral Act, 2022.

Similar to the previous rulings, the Supreme Court held that the PDP lack the locus standi to initiate the suit.
