Support for Notaries Public Society important – Lagos ex-CJ Ayotunde Phillips

Former chief Justice of Lagos, Justice Ayotunde Phillips (retd.), has hailed the establishment of the Notaries Public Society (TNPS) in Nigeria.
Phillips, who is TNPS life patron, said that notaries public play a “vital role in ensuring that legal documents are authentic and reliable.” She also urged support for the launch of the society, which is holding on June 20 at the Marriott Hotel, in the GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.
Stating the significance of notaries public society, Chief (Mrs) Marlies Allan, president & master of notaries-in-council, said the body would “serve as a cornerstone for enhancing the professionalism and effectiveness of notaries public in Nigeria.”
Olumuyiwa Ayojimi, honorary secretary to TNPS, confirmed that chief justice of Nigeria, Justice Kayode Ariwoola, is special guest of honour for the event. He explained the TNPS has a “mission to professionalize, promote excellence and integrity in Notarial Practice in Nigeria.”
The launch “will bring together all stakeholders within the notary public value chain,” Ayojimi added.
The stakeholders include “consulates and embassies of the UK, US, South Africa, Dubai & Canada, President of the Africa Notaries Society, representative of the Notaries Society of Australia, Ireland and the UK.”
Equally expected to be at the event are internal and foreign affairs Ministries, NAFDAC, SON, some Justices of the Nigerian Courts, senior members of the legal profession and legal practitioners in public and private establishments.”
TNPS said activities that will take place at the launch will include induction of new members by the Council of Notaries, launch of the Society’s online-notarization platform with ToNote Technologies, amongst others.”
TNPS is also expected to offer “resources, training, and support to ensure the highest level of integrity and proficiency in the execution of notarial duties.”
