Stray bullet kills corps member

A member of the National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC), has died after he was hit by a stray bullet during a shootout involving security operatives and bandits.

The incident happened on Friday, along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway.

Security operatives engaged the bandits in a gun duel, in the bid to stop their escape at Kasarami Village at about 8pm on Friday.

The corps member was hit inside the commercial vehicle he was travelling in at the time.

A top police officer alleged the operatives killed seven of the bandits.

“The victim was hit by a stray bullet because there was a serious crossfire between the security agencies and the bandits that tried to cross the main road at Kasarami village which is a route they use. But the security men, among them soldiers, at Rijana engaged them killing about seven of them and recovered motorcycles,” he said.

Doctors at the Saint Gerald Hospital, where the victim was taken to, reportedly confirmed him dead.

The victim, a Muslim, has been buried.
