Some don’t want election to take place, says Tinubu

Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has alleged a plan to scuttle next month’s general election but vowed to resist it.

Tinubu said this during a campaign stop at Abeokuta in Ogun State. The presidential candidate also implied that the current fuel scarcity and naira redesign policy are intended to frustrate his election but said he was optimistic of winning the poll.

He said, “This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. We shall take over from them.

“They don’t want election to take place, but we won’t accept. They want to hide under fuel scarcity to cause the crisis so that there won’t be an election,”  Tinubu said.

He added, “Whether there is fuel or not, we will vote. Without fuel, we shall vote. You know me very well, we are going to win, we are going to take over from them. We shall meet on election day. This election is a revolution, we are going to vote and we are going to win.”

Tinubu’s allegation about a possible sabotage by some officials of the incumbent government has sparked reactions on different quarters.

Weighing in on the issue, Professor Itse Sagay, the chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), said he believed Tinubu’s allegation as the truth.

He said, “I suspect that (sabotage) because when people in responsible positions begin to create hardship and annoyance and anger in the population which will be directed against the government, just before an election, the effect of that is that the government is going to be blamed by the voters and they may decide out of anger to vote for another party.

“It will drive away votes from the ruling party which they will blame for the conditions and circumstances being created by these very dangerous people”.

“What Emefiele is trying to do in saying you cannot use the existing currency after the 31st of January in a situation where the new currency is not available to be used is a plot to create disaffection for the government and indirectly create an unfavorable image for that government before the populace in a few weeks to an election. There is no question about that”.
