Smugglers shoot two customs officers

Smugglers have shot two operatives of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS). The two injured operatives are receiving treatments, says Ag. Customs Comptroller, DC Hussein Kehinde Ejibunu.

Ejibunu said, “Our Officers who were escorting seizures were ambushed and shot at, (and) in the process two (2) Officers were hit by bullets and are receiving treatment”.

“I am not unaware of their daring attitude by attacking our Operatives unprovoked.

“My advice for them is that they should desist because I will never allow my Officers to be macheted and killed like goats. There are legitimate businesses to switch to and earn a living,” he said.

Ejibunu, who heads Zone ‘A’ of the NCS, said the agency realised one hundred and fifteen million, five hundred and sixty four thousand, eight hundred and fifty naira (N115,564,850) in duty payment within ten days.

He said between 10th and 21st September, the NCS seized 253 bags of 50kg  parboiled rice; 383, 25 litres kegs of PMS; and 383 cartons of frozen poultry products.

Other seizures are 50 bales of secondhand clothing;  1,246 pieces of used tyres;  642 kegs of vegetable oil; 2 used Vehicles; 16 sacks of 288 pairs of used shoes, 13 units of Motorcycles.
